Occupational Health and Contact Dermatitits
At Adult and Paediatric Dermatology, Dr Rochelle Gild is able to diagnose and manage occupational related skin disease including contact dermatitis. The approach to diagnosis includes taking a thorough history and examination, patch testing and occasionally site visits or contact with place of employment. In addition to doing an assessment, Dr Gild is able to provide reports and liaise with other parties as required.
Irritant and allergic contact dermatitis can be a serious problem in many occupations including hairdressers, nurses, people working with rubber, dyes and textiles. It can affect people in the building industry, food preparation and cleaning.
Contact dermatitis can also affect 'stay at home' parents, particularly mothers of small children. Sometimes a rash around the eyes can be due to a contact allergy to fragrances or preservatives in perfumes and make up. Sometimes nail polish can cause eyelid dermatitis. Nickel is a very common cause of contact dermatitis. Identifying and then avoiding the substance causing the allergy will often result in a complete cure. Patch testing can be very helpful to identify the source of a skin allergy
